In 2003 Rhonda became a partner in the Asheville law firm of McDowall & Moorefield, and partnered with Bill McDowall until his retirement in 2008. Until 2013, Rhonda was a solo practitioner focusing in the areas of Family Law and Criminal Defense, at which point she earned Board Certification as a Specialist in Family Law.
Rhonda represents people through divorce and other family related legal matters in Buncombe, Madison, Haywood, Madison, Transylvania, Swain and Yancey counties.

Rhonda Moorefield is a long-time citizen of Asheville. She practices exclusively in the area of family law and offers family financial mediation services to attorneys in Western North Carolina. Rhonda is a North Carolina Board of Legal Specialization Certified Family Law Specialist and is a Certified Family Financial Mediator by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission.
Rhonda earned her law degree in May, 2002 from Stetson University College of Law, in St. Petersburg, Florida. She holds her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Western Carolina University, where she graduated cum laude and majored in business management in 1996. She holds an AS in Business Administration, with a minor in paralegal studies from Polk Community College in Winter Haven, Florida from 1978. She is an AV Preeminent Peer Rated Lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell.
Rhonda is admitted to practice in all North Carolina State Courts, in the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina (Federal), the United States District Court for the Fourth District Court of Appeals (Federal) and the United States Supreme Court. Rhonda entered the legal profession as a paralegal in 1991.
Rhonda and her husband have 5 adult children and 6 grandchildren.
Rhonda is a member of The Harry C. Martin American Inn of Court, an organization of highly respected lawyers working together to foster a culture of excellence in professionalism, ethics, civility, and legal skills within the practice of law. American Inns of Court actively involves more than 29,000 state, federal and administrative law judges, attorneys, legal scholars and law students.
Rhonda is also a member of the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys, an organization of women in the legal profession dedicated to increasing the effective participation by women in the justice system, in public office, and within the legal profession; promoting the rights of women under the law; and promoting the welfare of the women attorneys of North Carolina.

In 2003, Rhonda partnered with William D. McDowall, Jr. to form the firm of McDowall & Moorefield. Following Bill’s retirement, in 2013 Rhonda changed the name of her firm to the Law Offices of Rhonda Moorefield. In 2014, Rhonda teamed up with Katie Fisher, forming the firm of Moorefield & Fisher, PA. In 2017, Katie associated with a larger firm, and Rhonda returned to her solo practice.
Though Rhonda’s practice previously included representation of clients in criminal and other civil matters, she now focuses exclusively in the area of Family Law. Rhonda is experienced in both the Criminal and Civil sections of Superior and District State Courts, Small Claims, Special Proceedings before the Clerk, and in Juvenile Court.
